Korea's Samsung Electronics and Germany's Siltronic inaugurated on June 18 production of 300mm (12-inch) semiconductor wafers at their joint venture plant in Singapore, according to an AFP report. Involving an investment of approximately US$1 billion, the new plant was built for the two companies' joint venture Siltronic Samsung Wafer. The company projects a monthly capacity of 300,000 by 2010 for this new plant, which is expected to create 800 job openings.
